THE SPIRIT OF PROVENANCE
Welcome to my perpetual vineyard exploration – a journey of discovery inspired by the glorious diversity of Victoria’s wine regions. My aim, to capture the character and essence of special places in my wines – to capture the spirit of provenance.
By its very nature, my exploration offers wines of different origin year to year…season to season. Chosen vineyards are those I believe possess great interest, charm and depth, and capture a sense of mystique.
My ultimate aim through this journey is to gather a collection of special vineyards over time that produce wines of particular distinction. These “Pilgrims Flag” sites will take a permanent place amongst the Ben Haines portfolio within my ongoing exploration.
All explorers need a base – a spiritual home. Mine is Victoria’s Yarra Valley, but my exploration goes well beyond. It is a global one – a true journey of discovery around the world.
Marsanne | 2011
While its true personality can take considerable time to shine, Marsanne’s flashy youth can be just as infectious.
Roussanne | 2010
I’ve always considered Roussanne to be quite glamorous. This wine o ers enticing floral and perfume nuances of frangipani, lavender and clove entwined with a lavish stone fruit core. I also love the citrus twist and dried herb charm unraveling in the glass.
Syrah | 2009
I love how Syrah so honestly tells of its origins. Deep red and black fruits, evocative spice, perfume scents and a refined minerality are all on display as a true reflection of the vineyard.
